Chelsey Green, violin/viola faculty – Described as “passionate, electrifying, and innovative,” international recording artist Chelsey Green breaks down stereotypes of string playing. By fusing traditional classical technique with popular songs and original pieces in various genres – including R&B, Pop, Soul, Funk, Jazz and more – Chelsey Green brings vibrant violin, viola and rich vocals to audiences in a whole new way.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Dr. Chelsey Green was born into a family of jazz and funk musicians and started her performance career at age 5. Studying music her whole life, Dr. Green received her Bachelors degree from The University of Texas at Austin, her Masters degree from The Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and went on to receive her Doctorate of Musical Arts from The University of Maryland College Park. Most recently, Dr. Green was appointed to the faculty of the Berklee College of Music as an Associate Professor of Strings.

Chelsey Green, and her ensemble, The Green Project, have released three studio recordings; one of which, The Green Room, debuted on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. Touring both domestically and abroad, Chelsey Green and The Green Project have performed shows and presented educational workshops all around the world including stops in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Japan and Haiti.

Independently, Chelsey Green’s varied performance résumé includes performances at Carnegie Hall, the CBS Late Show, the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Essence Music Festival and more. Dr. Green has shared the stage with renowned artists including Stevie Wonder, J.Cole, Denyce Graves and more! Chelsey was recently featured alongside Estelle and Kirk Franklin in a nationally syndicated Walmart commercial produced by BET Networks that premiered during the 2017 Soul Train Awards.

Dedicated to educating youth, Dr. Green spends time devoted to the community by providing a wide range of educational music workshops to city and county schools, after school programs and educational groups worldwide.
